How a Session Flows
- Booking a Session
-
All sessions are by appointment only. To allow time for location scouting, planning & styling I typically book a few weeks out from the shoot. Session deposits are due in full at time of booking. Dates and times are not guaranteed until that deposit has been received.
*Newborn sessions are preferably held within the first 7 days of your little one's arrival. While we won't be able to schedule a firm date until after your little one arrives, it's important to get your due date on my calendar well in advance.
- Location & Styling
-
My lifestyle sessions are held on-location, meaning the sky is the limit! Your session is all about capturing the spirit and beauty that makes you & your family uniquely fabulous. These are memories we are documenting, so let's go somewhere that allows you to be free to enjoy being with your favorite people. Let's go for a hike, splash in a lake, hit your favorite ice cream shop, or bring your dog to the park; let's stroll around your favorite Main Street and use the wall textures and architecture as a backdrop. Let's cozy up in your own home, bake some cookies and hold a dance party. (I absolutely LOVE photographing children & families in their own homes...everyone is relaxed, and the backdrop couldn't possibly be more personal). If you have a specific location in mind, let me know and we'll make it happen! If you need some recommendations, I am here to help! We'll talk about the "feel" you want your portraits to have and activities your family likes to do and pick a location based on that.
Putting together a cohesive look for an entire family can seen overwhelming, but no worries - I've got you covered! As part of our session planning you'll receive tips and examples on selecting a great look for everyone involved.
- Planning Your Portrait Displays
-
I have several Portrait Collection options available for you. Most families know that they want portraits, but may not be sure exactly how they want to enjoy them. As we plan your session we'll discuss ideas and look at examples. Discussing options prior to your session helps you get a better idea of how you'll want to display and enjoy your memories, making it easier to plan a budget. This discussion also helps me prepare for how I'll photograph your session; photographing with plans to fill and design a coffee table book, for instance, could mean using compositions and angles that would differ from those better suited to use in a large canvas wall piece.
- The Session
-
A couple days prior to your session we'll chat again to confirm the location and time and double-check that we have each other's cell phone #s in case of emergencies the day of the session. On your session day I'll arrive early to our location to set up, and I'll expect you to arrive dressed and ready to begin as scheduled. It's important that we start your session right on time to ensure we have the best lighting possible and ample time to enjoy capturing the memories. The session itself typically lasts an hour, but if little ones need a break or diaper change, or if we're just having too much fun exploring and laughing, don't worry - I'm not going to rush our time together. *newborn sessions will last longer to allow time for feedings, etc.
- Selecting Your Prints & Designs
-
I'll be able to give you a more precise timeline the day of your session as it varies based on my workflow, but typically 10-12 business days after your session I will have your completed gallery ready to enjoy. Your gallery will include your fully-edited proofs, which are the "best of the best" from your session. This gallery will be password protected, and you will be able to share it with friends and family who will want to enjoy your portraits as well.
You will enjoy your Gallery online for 48 hours before we meet in person to go over your gallery and finalize your portrait collection and any custom designs or framing. I have a great collection planning guide to help you gather your thoughts as you enjoy your gallery and prep for our Design & Order Consultation.
All orders must be paid in full before they are sent to press at my professional print lab. Payment plans are available upon request. Due to the custom nature of these portraits and products, all sales are final.
